Leeds United's Under-23s side made it three wins on the bounce with a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United at Thorp Arch.

Carlos Corberan featured a host of first team players with Barry Douglas, Jack Clarke, Gaetano Berardi, Gjanni Alioski and Eddie Nketiah all picking up 45 minutes of action.

United started the game on top with Ryan Edmondson and Mateusz Bogusz testing the hands of Micahel Verrips in the visiting goal.

Leeds stopper Illan Meslier was then called into action as he saved from Leonardo Gaxha with both sides cancelling each other out for much of the opening period.

On the stroke of half-time the Blades were handed a glorious chance to opening the scoring from the penalty spot.

Reece York broke into the box with Meslier sprinting off his line before being adjudged to have taken down the midfielder.

The Whites protests fell on deaf ears as York hauled himself up to take the spot kick but he sent the ball the same way as United's number two goalkeeper who kept the effort out with strong hands.

A frantic spell after the interval followed which saw three goals in five minutes as the game burst into life.

Leeds first broke the deadlock through striker Edmondson - who bagged his third goal in three outings - before the Blades hit back a minute later through Jack Kelly with a slick move.

Bogusz then stepped up on the hour mark to fire home a stunning free-kick from 20-yards to restore Leeds' slender cushion.

Half-time substitute Nketiah twice went close in the latter stages before Meslier was forced into one last save from Zak Brunt to ensure United held onto all three points and a third win on the bounce.

Corberan will now prepare his squad for a quick turnaround with an away trip to Wolves in the Premier League Cup on Monday night looming.
