Leeds United transfer news: Whites tipped for shock PL midfielder raid, Elland Road player to be replaced

Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson has urged the Whites to make a move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks.

The 25-year-old has tumbled down the pecking order in north London this term, and has started just seven matches for Jose Mourinho’s side.

Frustrated by a lack of action, Spanish publication Sport report that the England international will insist on leaving Spurs this summer, having previously been linked with a loan move to Valencia in the January transfer window.

But Robinson has argued that he still has more than enough about him to make it in the upper echelons of the Premier League, and has even floated the idea of a shock swoop from the Whites.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, he said: “Harry Winks would be a great signing, I’d love him to come to Leeds.

“He’s a great player, I rate him really highly.

“He’s been unlucky at Spurs not to get more game time because I think he could get in any of the top-six sides. He’s a great player.

“If he came to Leeds it would be a real coup. Harry Winks and Ben White would be a great start to the summer and I expect Leeds to spend big again.”

Despite his lack of minutes, Winks has shown good form at times this season, and so far has registered a pass completion rate that is 3.1% higher than Kalvin Phillips’, as well as making 0.49 interceptions more than the Elland Road favourite.

Elsewhere, Leeds are reportedly looking to offload goalkeeper Kiko Casilla for free this summer.

According to Football Insider, the Whites are desperate to get the veteran Spaniard off their wage bill, and could be willing to forego a transfer fee in a bid to facilitate his exit.

It is understood that the former Real Madrid man is on a salary of around £40,000-a-week, but has made just three starts in all competitions this season as Illan Meslier cements his place as Marcelo Bielsa’s number one.

If Leeds do get rid of Casilla, it is suggested that they will move to bring in another stopper to act as the young Frenchman’s understudy.
