Leeds United transfer news: 'Too late' for Elland Road ace to save himself, Bielsa plots raid on Yorkshire club

There is still no clear indication as to whether Ezgjan Alioski will stay at Leeds United this summer.

The fiery utility man is out of contract at the end of the season, and as thing stand, is still yet to agree terms on a new deal.

It is understood that the Whites are keen to tie him down to an extended contract at Elland Road, but contrasting reports from Football Insider suggest that the player has already told his agent to start looking for a new club.

Former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson is convinced that he will be away too.

Speaking to MOT Leeds News, he said: “His contract’s up and he’s not playing in his favourite position.

“The manager seems to like him and he keeps bringing him on, but defensively I don’t know what he offers.

“I think it’s obvious now as a player if you are left out of the team, if you’re a bit-part player and you’re not playing in your favourite position anyway, as a player you’d want to move on yourself, maybe take on a new challenge, go and play somewhere else.

“Bielsa clearly likes him but I do think his time is up and I think he will move on.

“We’re in the final third of the season and there doesn’t appear to be any negotiations, so I think it’s too late.

“A new left-back has to be a priority for Leeds in the summer and it’s one area they have to strengthen.”

Robinson isn’t the only pundit to suggest that Alioski is headed for the exit door.

Kevin Phillips recently told Football Insider that he believes Marcelo Bielsa has decided that the North Macedonian can leave this summer on the basis of the fact that he has been benched for Leeds’ last three matches.

Elsewhere, the Whites have set their sights on Sheffield Wednesday defender Osaze Urhoghide, according to Football League World.

The online publication claim that Bielsa is keeping tabs on the 20-year-old, who can play at the heart of defence, or on the left-side of a back-line.

Crystal Palace and Watford are also said to be keen on the talent, with the Dutchman potentially available for free in the summer – although a compensatory fee would have to be paid on account of his age.

Urhoghide came through the youth system at Wimbledon before joining Wednesday in 2019.

So far this term he has made seven Championship appearances for the struggling Owls, and former manager Garry Monk – who himself had a spell at Elland Road – delivered a glowing review of the youngster.

He said: “I’ve been really pleased with him. There are few things in football that are up there with seeing a young lad make his debut and start his journey with the club.

“The main thing is his attitude. He’s been with us quite regularly, he’s been in and out of our preparations and I felt he deserved that today. He’s got his rewards for his performances and his hard work. That should be an inspiration to the other younger players at the club and to himself.”
