Leeds United’s hopes of signing Ajax man Nicolas Tagliafico look to have improved, with the Dutch side believed to be willing to accept just over £10m for the Argentina international. He did the double with his side last season. (De Telegraaf)

Whites fans backing club for success

Leeds United supporters are backing the Elland Road club to build on their impressive Premier League success.

The Whites enjoyed a stellar debut campaign in the top flight after ending a 16-year exile from England’s elite last summer.

Head coach Marcelo Bielsa guided his charges to a ninth-placed finish in the Premier League at the first time of asking and is now looking to answer questions over any dreaded second season syndrome.

Many onlookers outside of West Yorkshire have asked whether the club can back up their stunning performance in the 2020/21 campaign again next term.

In the Yorkshire Evening Post’s end of season survey among readers, 54.3 per cent of fans said they were cautiously optimistic for the future while 42.8 per cent admitted to being very optimistic about what can be achieved next year.

Heartbreaking news for Diego Llorente

Leeds United’s Diego Llorente has been forced to leave Spain’s Euro 2020 camp after returning a positive Covid-19 test.

The Whites centre-half is the second of Luis Enrique’s Spain players to test positive ahead of the tournament, following captain Sergio Busquets.

A statement from the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) confirmed he had left their Las Rozas camp.

“The RFEF regrets to announce that central defender Diego Llorente has tested positive in the latest PCR tests carried out this morning at the national team base at Las Rozas,” said a spokesperson.

“The footballer will leave tonight the concentration of the national team in a medicalised vehicle, following all the established health protocols.”

The transfer window is officially open

I know we’re all in Euro 2020 fever... but just a reminder that the Premier League’s transfer window officially opened this morning (June 9).

Interestingly, however, many of Europe’s other top markets, including La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga, and Ligue 1, are set to open on July 1.
