Leeds United to face League Two trio in Papa John's Trophy including Gary Neville's Salford City

Leeds United will put an Under 21 side against a trio of EFL opponents in next season's Papa John's Trophy.

A young Whites team will face off against League Two clubs Oldham Athletic, Tranmere Rovers and Salford City, owned by Gary Neville and a group of fellow former Manchester United players, in Northern Group B of the EFL competition.

Fixture dates are to be confirmed.

Last season Leeds went out at the group stage thanks to a hat-trick of defeats to Blackpool, Accrington Stanley and Barrow.

A team of teenagers were thumped 7-0 by Accrington, before a 6-5 loss on penalties at Barrow and a 3-0 defeat at Blackpool.

Sunderland won the 2020/21 competition with a 1-0 victory over Tranmere at Wembley.
