Leeds United striker Ryan Edmondson closing in on next loan, fellow Thorp Arch graduate has chance of move

The Leeds United striker finished his stint with Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen on Sunday and several clubs, both north and south of the border, have shown an interest in securing his services for the rest of the 2020/21 season.

Aberdeen were initially keen on retaining the 19-year-old before a last minute change of heart from the Pittodrie outfit, who have felt the effects of the pandemic financially. Their transfer window and any incoming signings will largely be dictated by what they can do to first get players out.

Edmondson made three starts in the Scottish Premiership and scored his first pair of senior goals in a win over Hamilton.

Game time was an issue, however.

Having overcome an unfortunately timed injury, Edmondson’s return to full fitness and the starting line-up coincided with the return of Dons main man Sam Cosgrove.

The youngster was due to return to Yorkshire at the start of this week but will soon be heading out again.

A pair of clubs in the Scottish Premiership are keen, albeit clubs looking to avoid relegation, and they have been joined by teams in both League Two and League One. Bradford City are reportedly one of those, having already landed Bryce Hosannah and Jordan Stevens on loan.

Ideally for both the teenager and Leeds, he will go to a team that are in good form and making chances, so he can finish the season with a goalscoring flourish.

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes told the media in August that Edmondson was shortly to sign a new contract at Leeds but that is yet to materialise. His current deal at Elland Road runs out in the summer.

Fellow Thorp Arch graduate Oliver Casey may also be moving out on loan before the transfer window closes.

The centre-half played in Sunday’s FA Cup Third Round defeat by Crawley Town, coming on for the second half and his first senior involvement since the Carabao Cup exit to Hull City back in September.

Casey has shone for the 23s alongside Charlie Cresswell and a number of clubs in the EFL want to take him on loan for the remainder of the season.

He signed a three-year deal in the summer that runs until 2023.
