Leeds United: Spine in need of support - Ormsby

Have your say

Leeds United legend Brendan Ormsby answers your questions.

Hi Brendan. Where do you think Brian McDermott’s priority will be in terms of signings?

I would say down the spine of the team.

He needs to sort out the back four once and for all. Tom Lees, pictured, played well last year and while Peltier did okay in the middle, he’s not a proper centre-half for me. Tom needs someone with experience to bring him on quicker.

As for Jason Pearce, to be fair, I saw him at the end of the season and he had a few decent games. But without slagging him off, I think there’s better centre-halves out there.

In the middle, we also need a playmaker. We have grafters who have been around for a long time. But we haven’t got someone to put their foot on the ball and pass it about. Grafters are all well and good. As a defender, it’s good to have a few of them in front of you who are going to work their socks. But having said that, you then lose out in creativity.

A lot of the time with Neil (Warnock), in midfield it was like-for-like, with say Michael Brown coming on for Michael Tonge or one of the other ones. It was a straight swap.
