Leeds United defender Pontus Jansson came on as a half-time substitute and helped Sweden to a 3-2 victory over hosts Portugal last night.

Portugal were leading the friendly 2-0 at the break through Cristiano Ronaldo and an own goal by Sweden captain Andreas Granqvist.

But the United cult hero replaced his skipper at the break and Sweden hit back to win thanks to a brace from Viktor Claesson and a 93rd- minute own goal by the hosts’ Cavaco Cancelo.

United midfielder Eunan O’Kane was also a second-half replacement in the Republic of Ireland’s 1-0 friendly defeat against Iceland in Dublin.

O’Kane replaced Aston Villa’s former Barnsley midfielder Conor Hourihane, who was making his debut, in the 63rd minute but he could not prevent the Irish from slipping to a first home defeat in 15 games at the Aviva Stadium.
