Leeds United pour water on Kenny and number 17 link

Have your say

LEEDS UNITED have rubbished national stories suggesting that owner Massimo Cellino wants to get rid of Paddy Kenny due to an aversion to the number 17 - the day of the month in which the goalkeeper was born.

The 36-year-old’s career at Elland Road is all but over, with the Halifax-born player surplus to requirements and expected to move onto pastures new this summer, having not travelled out with the first-team squad to their training camp in Italy on Monday morning.

Paddy Kenny.

Paddy Kenny.

Reports claimed this morning that Kenny would be axed by the club because Cellino’s unlucky number is 17, with the Italian having told head coach David Hockaday not to select him.

Leeds say those reports are nonsense, along with the recent video footage purportedly showing Kenny to be massively overweight.

Here’s a short YEP video of first-team players including Kenny in pre-season training at Thorp Arch late last week.

He is towards the foot of the group, wearing a long-sleeved top and slightly to the left. See what you think.
