Pablo Hernandez has committed his future to Leeds United by signing a new two-year contract at Elland Road.

As revealed in the YEP yesterday, Hernandez and Leeds agreed terms over a fresh deal after a month-and-a-half of talks and the extension will keep the midfielder at Elland Road until 2020.

United were at risk of losing Hernandez on a free transfer this summer after allowing his existing contract to run down but the two sides have shaken hands on a deal which will earn him a further extension if the club win promotion to the Premier League.

The former Valencia and Swansea City winger has been the stand-out player in a disappointing season for Leeds and is expected to win the club’s player-of-the-year award next week.

His nine goals and eight assists have helped to keep Leeds in the top half of the Championship and head coach Paul Heckingbottom pushed for talks over a new deal for Hernandez within weeks of taking charge of United’s first team.
