Leeds United placed in group with League Two new boys in EFL Trophy

LEEDS United's under-21s will face games against Accrington Stanley, Barrow and Blackpool in this season's EFL Trophy.

Leeds accepted an invitation to play in the 2020/21 competition after the club's Academy achieved Category One status.

Category One Academy sides who feature in the EFL Trophy can field under-21 sides against League One and League Two opponents, with the chance to reach Wembley for the final.

And United have been drawn in Group G of the Northern Group Stage alongside League Two new boys and last season's National League champions Barrow plus League One outfits Accrington and Blackpool.

The first round of games in the competition will take place on Tuesday, September 8 and Wednesday, September 9, shortly before the start of the new Premier League season the following weekend.

Leeds will play their three opponents only once in the Group stage with all three games played away from home.

The second round of Group stage games will take place on October 6 and October 7 with the final round of Group stage matches on November 10 and November 11.

The knockout stages will then start with the round of 32 on December 8 and 9.

Full fixture details will be announced in due course.
