LEEDS UNITED midfield star Alex Mowatt has been named on the bench by England U20s coach Aidy Boothroyd for tonight’s friendly clash against Mexico at Barnet FC.
Mowatt - who has scored eight goals for United this term in a thoroughly impressive 2014-15 - recently received his first call-up to the under-20 squad with Boothroyd’s side also in action on Sunday afternoon in a friendly against USA at Home Park, Plymouth.
Championship regulars Moses Odubajo, of Brentford and Nottingham Forest’s Ben Osborn start, along with Chelsea starlet Lewis Baker, who spent part of this season on loan at Sheffield Wednesday.
You have to go back to December 2003 for the last time Leeds had a representative who played for the England U20s, with former defender Matt Kilgallon featuring in the World Youth U20 Championships in Dubai.
The York-born centre-half played in all three matches.
The previous month, Horsforth-born James Milner played for England in their 2-0 friendly win over Wales at Stoke City’s Britannia Stadium and was also in the party for the world finals the following month.
Milner was an unused substitute in three matches against Japan, Egypt and Colombia - with England failing to qualify.
