Leeds United midfielder Alex Mowatt has been rewarded for his two stunning goals over the last two games by being named in the Football League team of the week.
Mowatt was named ‘Man of the Match’ on Saturday after his excellent display against Huddersfield Town, a game which United won 3-0.
The 20-year-old’s performance in that game followed his reintroduction to the side against Cardiff City. Mowatt also had a telling impact on that game, scoring a thunderous long-range strike to give the Whites their first victory at home since March 2015.
Mowatt had missed out on the games against Fulham, Bolton and Blackburn Rovers following the appointment of Steve Evans as head coach.
Evans was effusive in his praise for Mowatt’s display.
He said: “I couldn’t have painted a better picture and it opened up to a special young man who has once again scored a special goal.
“It was a stunning strike but he does it in training most days. It’s not just his two goals but his all-round play. There were periods in the second half when he kept the ball and worked hard and was smart and it makes the babies like him and Lewis Cook very special.”
Mowatt featured regularly under previous head coach Uwe Rosler, but he had struggled to match up to last season’s goal-scoring form, when he scored nine goals in 38 appearances.
