LEEDS United will take on five-time German champions Borussia Mönchengladbach as part of a two-game tour of Austria as part of the club’s pre-season friendlies.
United’s intention to travel to Austria has been known for some time but the Whites are yet to fully finalise their programme with Leeds set to play opposition to be confirmed at an Austrian venue to be confirmed on Monday, July 17 (kick-off 6pm local time).
But the Whites have confirmed that they will face Mönchengladbach for their second game in Austria at Kufstein Arena on Thursday, July 20 (kick-off 6pm local time).
The Kufstein Arena is the home of third tier Austrian side FC Kufstein and has a capacity of 4,500.
The ground, located in the town in the state of Tyrol, will see Leeds take on Mönchengladbach who won the German league five times in the 1970s, a decade in which they were twice runners-up.
Mönchengladbach are managed by Dieter Hecking and finished last season ninth in the Bundesliga.
United’s pre-season presently features six games and just one at Elland Road with League One side Oxford United providing the opposition over the final weekend before the season starts on Saturday, July 29.
The friendly against Oxford goes ahead as part of the deal to sign former Oxford forward Kemar Roofe last summer.
United’s first pre-season will be at Harrogate Town on Wednesday, July 5 (kick-off 7.30pm).
The Whites will then travel to Guiesley on Saturday, July 8 (3pm kick-off) before another away match at North Ferriby United on Wednesday, July 12 (kick-off 7.30pm).
Leeds will then embark on their trip to Austria before ending pre-season with the Oxford tie though the club may well arrange another friendly to take place after the Monchengladbach clash.
