LEWIS Baker is backing former team-mate Dele Alli to help bring the World Cup back home to England with Leeds United's new Chelsea loanee admitting the Tottenham Hotspur star's success is richly deserved.

Just over three years have passed since Premier League loan stars Baker and Alli played alongside each other for the final time in stepping out for MK Dons in a 3-2 victory at League One hosts Rochdale in April 2015.

After helping his home town club secure promotion to the Championship by finishing second, Alli returned to parent club Tottenham the following season and three years later the 22-year-old could be three games away from helping England win the World Cup.

Alli and Gareth Southgate's Three Lions take on Sweden in their World Cup quarter final final on Saturday afternoon and former England under-21 international Baker says Alli's progression has come as no shock whatsoever.

"I'm not surprised at all," said 23-year-old Baker about his former MK Dons team-mate.

"Dele is a great lad and he deserves everything he has been getting and I really hope that him and the lads do bring it home.

"They are on such a great run right now and I want to see them lift the trophy."
