Leeds United legend Jack Charlton gallery through the years as Whites legend celebrates birthday

AS LEEDS United legend Jack Charlton celebrates his 85th birthday, Lee Sobot picked out a selection of photos of the iconic former Whites defender for club and country.

Charlton was born on May 8, 1935 in Ashington and went on to become one of United's greatest ever players with the centre-back also helping England to win the 1966 World Cup.

Charlton only ever played for Leeds with the defender making 772 appearances for the Whites, all beginning with his debut at home to Doncaster Rovers in Division Two on April 25, 1953.
