LEEDS UNITED have parted company with forgotten midfielder David Norris after terminating his contract by mutual consent.

Norris has quit the Elland Road club tonight, ending his time at Leeds six months early.

The 33-year-old’s three-year deal was due to expire at the end of June but he has been a peripheral figure at United for the past 18 months and was unlikely to feature for the club again.

Leeds signed him from Portsmouth in the summer of 2012, part of a group of players brought in from Fratton Park by Neil Warnock, and he played 34 times in his first season at Elland Road.

But a solitary League Cup appearance last term was followed by one in the same competition this term and a series of managers and head coaches repeatedly overlooked him.

Swindon Town were rumoured to have taken an interest in Norris during the last summer transfer window but a move failed to materialise.
