Leeds United's Head of Medicine and Performance Rob Price has given updates over injured defenders Luke Ayling and Gaetano Berardi.

The pair have been sidelined by long-term injuries in recent months and have been continuing their rehab with the medical department at Thorp Arch.

Leeds United defender Luke Ayling picked up a knee injury against Nottingham Forest.

Swiss defender Berardi picked up a hamstring issue against Ipswich Town in late October and was ruled out initially until February, while fellow right-back Ayling is expected to return in the New Year following a knee injury against Nottingham Forest in November.

Price, who was speaking to LUTV, issued updates on how the duo were progressing with their respective problems.

"He's doing really well," Price said of Ayling's recovery.

"It was a significant injury he got and he was braced up until four weeks so he's only been out of that brace for just over a week now. He's already outside doing stuff with Reuben our rehab fitness coach and he's progressing as well as we could hope at this stage."

Price though admitted that there was still no definite time frame for the return of Berardi: "It's interesting. We've done a series of injections to try and improve the healing area at the top of the hamstring,"

"We went for some re-imaging of it this week and it shows that it's improving really, really well. We've got another stage with re-imaging again in two weeks just to make sure before we can push him on further outside.

"With these injuries you cannot give a firm return to play date until they get past a few stages first."
