Leeds United legend Brendan Ormsby answers your questions.

Hi Brendan. Where do you think the priority area will be for us to strengthen in the January transfer window?

Paul Davis, Leeds

I have said for a while that we need someone to put their foot on the ball in midfield to complement the grafters we have and I am sticking by that.

Every team needs at least one ball player in the midfield; it’s the grafters who do the work for them.

When I played at Leeds, we had Shez (John Sheridan), who would get on the ball and pick out a pass. When you have someone like that in your team, it helps you a lot and we could really do with someone like that who can pull the strings.

Defensive wise, Paddy Kenny is one of the best keepers in the division, so there’s nothing wrong there. But looking at the others, I have got to be honest, I am not convinced by Alan Tate or Jason Pearce, from what I have seen.

Tom Lees is certainly a better centre-half than right-back, but could do with someone really commanding alongside him, for me.

Don’t get me wrong, Tate and Pearce are good players but I wouldn’t describe them as outstanding centre-halves. Having someone who is really experienced and assertive would really bring on Lees more.

Centre-halves are so key. I watched the Forest game and said to my son straightaway that Forest’s centre-backs couldn’t play, but will head a ball. They were a threat at set-pieces in the air, and while not necessarily great on the ball, did the job and headed and tackled when they had to. That gives a team a lot of confidence; it makes a big difference and stops a team panicking.

We are still conceding too many silly goals for me and it’s been a theme in the last few years. I am not saying one person would change it, but if we brought in a big, dominant centre-half who wins 99 per cent of the balls in the air, it really does help for me.

Looking at the game against Forest, I also think we probably also need another striker to take some of the weight off Luciano Becchio. Davide Somma has come back and I actually thought that when he came on against Boro he would get the winner.

He will need a few more run-outs to get back to fitness and he will be an asset. But I think we will need someone else as well.
