Leeds United is a special club, reveals Pablo Hernandez

Leeds United playmaker Pablo Hernandez says he wants to "achieve something" at a "special club" after putting pen to paper on a new two-year contract at Elland Road.

The Spaniard committed his future to the Whites on Thursday morning by signing a new two-year deal to extend his stay in West Yorkshire with his current deal set to run out this summer.

Hernandez has been a key player in a difficult campaign for Leeds this season providing nine goals and eight assists.

The former Valencia and Swansea City man though old of his delight at securing a new deal which will see him remain with United until 2020.

"I am very happy, " revealed Hernandez.

"I always said my intention was to stay here at Leeds United. I had some options but I always said I was happy here. I feel this is a special club, it's a big club in England with a lot of history.

"Sometimes in football for the players this feeling is very important. I want to play for this challenge and for me that is to get back to the Premier League.

"I had opportunities in Spain but this is a special club and I want to achieve something here. In the next two years I think we can. I have a great feeling with the fans. Elland Road is a special place. They told me I was an important player and an example for the youngsters. That's a role I like."

Asked how serious his claims were about helping Leeds return to the top flight the Spaniard replied: "Why not?"

"I think everybody hopes this. It's going to be difficult because this league is very hard, all of the teams fight for the same challenge but why not? I think this team deserves this."
