Former Leeds United manager Brian McDermott is in talks over the vacant manager’s job at Reading.

McDermott was previously in charge of the Royals, taking them to the Premier League in 2011.

He left Reading in 2012 before taking over Leeds.

His time with Leeds was defined by incredible drama off the pitch. He was in charge of the club when Massimo Cellino took over. Within hours of his purchase, Cellino attempted to dismiss McDermott, only to find he did not have the authority to do so. In McDermott’s absence, Leeds beat Huddersfield Town 5-1.

McDermott had taken Leeds to fifth at Christmas, but found results harder to come by in the second half of the campaign. His team infamously lost 6-0 away at Sheffield Wednesday.

He was then dismissed at the end of the 2013/14 season after just over a year at Elland Road.

He will leave his role as scout at Arsenal to take on his new job.
