Leeds United fans reminisce as brilliant cartoon of old stand is released

The Yorkshire Post's cartoonist Graeme Bandeira has perfectly captured the spirit of Elland Road gone-by in his latest cartoon.

The East Stand was built in the 1992–93 season to replace the Lowfields and was opened in the 1993–94 season.

Graeme's work had Leeds fans reminiscing about old match days at Elland Road.

John Craddock said: "From a distance the floodlights used to make the hair on the back of my neck stand on end.

"They must have put the fear of god into opponents."

Jon Slater added: "Brilliant memories. Haven’t see those steps and that entrance since it was knocked down."

While Lee Ogden praised Graeme's cartoon, saying: "Brilliant. The first stand I ever went in as a 14 year old."

Graeme said: "This is a one-off illustration to run alongside a series I am doing about Yorkshire football grounds that are gone but not forgotten.

"I know Elland Road is still standing and for a ground with such history and heritage it was too good an opportunity to miss.

"I know Leeds United fans care passionately for their team and whilst football is suspended and their promotion hopes remain in jeopardy I thought I would produce something for them to smile about."
