Leeds have returned to the top flight for the first time in 16 years as Marcelo Bielsa guided his side to the Championship title in stunning fashion.

The Leeds United Supporters Trust have already asked for Leeds City Council to formally recognise the United boss while a street has been named after the Argentine in the city centre.

Supporters were treated to a very special evening on Wednesday night as they watched club captain Liam Cooper lift the second division trophy at Elland Road.

Celebrations on the pitch with the players, coaching staff and the club's hierarchy were only dampened by the absence of fans inside the ground.

The feeling of promotion, though, cannot be taken away for supporters who have been through thick and thin following their team

It's been a long time coming hasn't it. I remember them going down, I've been through it all. It's something my kids can experience. I've been here through thick and thin.

Jason - who headed down to Elland Road for the celebrations - said: "There were some serious low points. Everyone has had their own thoughts about the Football League being against us and all that.

"It was going to happen one day. It just needed the club to settle down. We're in the Premier League now. And we've got Josh Warrington - a world champion boxer.

"A massive thank you to Marcelo. Please don't leave us!"

Ste added: "This means so much. 16 years is such a long time to wait. We didn't think it would happen this year. It's just incredible."

Tom Hill, from Leeds, said: "Promotion for me ends what has been a wasted 16 years where we have suffered for too long.

"Last weekend is something I’ll never forget and Leeds are now back in the press for all the right reasons. From mid-table mediocrity to champions. The future is so bright and for once it’s time to enjoy the ride."

Gary - from the Talking Shutt podcast - said: "After 16 years in the wilderness, Leeds are back in the big time. I’ll be honest it’s a day I was beginning to think would never come. I feel like I’ve spent most of my adult life with Leeds in turmoil and that’s largely because we have been.

"Under the current ownership and the stewardship of Marcelo Bielsa, the club is one the fans and the city can be proud of again.

"I can’t thank the players, coaches and staff enough for their work in getting this huge club back to where we belong. I'm so incredibly proud and overjoyed to be a Premier League Leeds United fan once again."

Andrew - aka Mr Leeds United stats - said: "5912 days, 833 games, 361 wins, 188 draws, 284 loses, 1154 goals, 1004 conceded, 1094 points, 6 penalty shoot outs, 287 players, 19 managers (inc caretakers), 5 owners, 95 grounds - goodbye Football League. Hello Premier League!

"From Charlton to Cheltenham, from Histon to Hereford, from Newcastle to Newport and from Southampton to Sutton, we’ve travelled to 95 different grounds in the last 16 years.

"Liam Cooper follows in the footsteps of Jim Baker, Bobby Collins, Billy Bremner, Gordon Strachan and Gary McAllister (Charity Shield) to life a trophy for Leeds United, all six are legends.

"That's what it means to be in the Premier League."
