Richard Lobsiger, 57, has been forced to give up the coffin bearing the logo of his beloved Whites to make space in his house.

The lifelong Leeds fan, originally from Harrogate, picked up the coffin at a shop in Hull.

He said: "It didn't have the logo on but it was the royal blue colour.

"I said to my wife 'I'll put a badge on that and you can bury me in it'."

Richard, who lives in Holme Upon Spalding Moor, near York, decided he needed the space as his son is moving back in.

He posted an advert on Facebook selling groups yesterday (Thursday), and has been fielding huge numbers of enquiries ever since.

He has even had offers from family members of people who have died this week, asking if they can bury their relatives in it.

Richard, who owns a computer repair business, added: "I knew there was a funny element to it but it was never my intention for it to get like this.

"It was fun at first, but then it got absolutely crazy - my phone was pinging every few minutes throughout the night.

"I think it just shows how much excitement there is around this team at the moment.

"I think particularly among the older fans who remember the Don Revie era - and now of course we have this new boss we call God."

Richard had offers from fans of all ages, but had to pick a buyer quickly - a couple from Garforth are collecting the coffin tonight.

He had offers well over the £175 asking price, but didn't want to sell for much more than he thought it was worth.

"If I'd put the price at £500 - £800 I wouldn't be surprised if it would have gone.

"I'd have been happy to have been buried in it, but I can't keep it for the next however many years."

Richard even posted a picture showing him laying down in the coffin, which piqued the curiosity of his dog, a cockapoo called Ted.

He posted an update on his listing today, which read: "This listing has gone viral and I can't answer all questions so this is what you need to know.

"I'm 6ft tall of slim build and it fits me with a little extra space.

"Definitely not for a larger build person though.

"The price is £175.00 (no less) and I have multiple offers even a couple which are substantially higher but the problem is I urgently need space in the home so collection only ASAP.

"I have already promised to sell this Saturday if it doesn't go before.

"Condition is new unused but a couple of very minor scratches.

"Made of composite wood."
