Leeds United midfielder Lewis Cook has been called up to the England Under-19 squad for European qualifiers against France, Denmark and Azerbaijan.
The 18-year-old – a member of the Under-17 side who won the European Championship in Malta last summer – will travel to France next week as England’s Under-19s look to secure their place at the 2015 tournament in Greece.
Cook, who is nearing the end of a highly-impressive first season as a senior player at Leeds, has caught the eye of Under-19 coach Sean O’Driscoll since the turn of the year.
Former Doncaster chief O’Driscoll attended United’s 1-1 draw at home to Birmingham City in January and has included Cook in his 18-man squad, one of just five non-Premier League players named in the group.
Cook has already been capped by England at Under-16 and Under-18 level, making his first and only Under-18s appearance against the Netherlands last August.
The Under-19s are due to play Denmark on March 26, Azerbaijan on March 28 and France on March 31.
The games, which fall during the Championship’s international break, will all be played in France as part of the elite qualifying round.
