What happened?

The Brazil Independence Cup was a tournament held to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the country declaring independence.

Leeds United midfielder Billy Bremner captained Scotland in the competition and on this day 48 years ago they played out a 2-2 draw with Yugoslavia.

Scotland had received a bye into the second group stage of the tournament with 20 nations from five confederations all involved.

It was the opening clash for both sides in Group A, and Bremner's side led late on thanks to a double from forward Lou Macari.

Disaster struck, though, as an own goal from Martin Buchan in the 87th minute saw the points shared.

Scotland failed to progress from the group as hosts Brazil went on to lift the trophy beating Portugal in the final which was hosted at the Maracana stadium.
