Lewis Cook geared up for a return to Leeds United’s first team squad this weekend with a run-out for the club’s Under-21s last night.
Cook completed 90 minutes of a development squad game against Sheffield United at Elland Road following the end of his recent suspension.
The 18-year-old was banned for three games following his dismissal in a League Cup defeat to Doncaster Rovers two weeks ago.
The suspension ruled him out of Championship fixtures against Reading, Bristol City and Sheffield Wednesday but he is set to retake his place in Uwe Rosler’s squad for Saturday’s visit to Derby County.
Luke Murphy, Lee Erwin and Casper Sloth were also used in a 2-1 win last night.
Leeds controlled most of the first half and rattled Sheffield United’s crossbar after only 10 minutes when goalkeeper George Willis tipped a Chris Dawson strike onto the frame of his goal.
Lee Erwin drove another chance wide and then tested Willis with a low drive.
The Blades took the lead when Jake Wright slipped an easy finish past Charlie Horton from close range, but Erwin equalised with a curling a sweet finish into the far corner of Willis’ net.
Murphy added a second with a drive from 30 yards and the visitors missed chances to claim a point as Jamie McDonagh headed against the bar and a scramble saw the ball come back off a post.
Leeds United: Horton, Coyle, Skelton, Denton, Purver, Cook, Murphy, Sloth, Dawson (Stokes 79), Erwin, Parkin (Mulhern 90). Subs (not used): Grimes, Pearce, Lyman.
