Leeds United boss Heckingbottom 'pleased' by O'Connor showing

Leeds United boss Paul Heckingbottom has revealed he has been pleased with 20-year-old defender Paudie O'Connor since he was thrust into Championship action.

The Irishman has started each of the last three league fixtures for the Whites as an injury crisis has swept Heckingbottom's squad but after making the step up from the under-23's O'Connor hasn't looked out of place earning praise for his performances.

The 40-year-old, who was speaking ahead of Saturday's clash with Barnsley, revealed that he had been impressed with the youngster in what have been difficult circumstances.

"He's done well," Heckingbottom told his pre-match press conference.

"I've been pleased. We had him in with us a couple of weeks before he got his chance because we knew we were low on numbers there and just in case. As it turned out it was a good job really because we had to throw him in and he felt more comfortable with the group.

"He's a person who one of his strengths is his character and you never really know how people are going to do until you put them in.

"He's not been fazed which is the important thing."
