Andrea Tabanelli is still waiting to discover his fate with the Football League set to decide on whether his transfer from Cagliari to Leeds United was properly completed.

The 23-year-old’s proposed loan at Elland Road has been pending for the past week amid doubts about whether the move adhered to Football League regulations.

Tabanelli – an attacking midfielder – came to Yorkshire on transfer deadline day in a deal set up by prospective United owner and Cagliari president Massimo Cellino.

He has not trained with United’s due to doubts about the validity of his switch, and asked whether the transfer was likely to go ahead, McDermott said: “We don’t know. It’s still with the FL. He’s in a situation which is tough and if he gets clearance he’ll be given absolute respect and every opportunity.

“I’ve not seen him in training but I’ve seen clips of him. He looks like a really good lad who wants to work hard.”

Tabanelli is not expected to travel to Yeovil, but striker Matt Smith returns after a three-match suspension.

Jermaine Beckford made his Leeds United debut on March 21 2006.
