Tommaso Bianchi will unexpectedly miss the first game of the new Championship season after it emerged today that the Leeds United midfielder is suspended for tomorrow’s match at Millwall.

Bianchi is carrying a ban incurred during the final stages of last season’s Serie B campaign and will play no part at The Den.

The 25-year-old picked up two yellow cards in the Serie B play-offs and the cautions - received in separate matches - were enough to land him with a one-game suspension, a penalty which transfers between national associations.

Bianchi, who was on loan at Modena at the time, moved to Leeds from Sassuolo in July, joining Leeds on a four-year deal.

The former Italy Under-21 international would almost certainly have started at Millwall but will watch instead from the sidelines ahead of his return to contention for Tuesday’s League Cup tie against Accrington Stanley.
