Fede Bessone will report back for the start of Leeds United’s pre-season programme next week with his long-term future undecided.
Bessone was transfer-listed at the end of last season after a forgettable first year at Elland Road but he is planning to link up with Simon Grayson’s squad in seven days’ time having so far failed to find a new club.
The Argentinian left-back - signed by Leeds from Swansea City last summer - is under contract until 2013 but he is unlikely to find a way back into United’s plans before next season.
Bessone made only eight appearances during his maiden year at Elland Road but struggled to impress, and Grayson loaned him to League One club Charlton Athletic for the second half of last term.
Charlton is a possible destination for Bessone this summer but his agent, Peter Smith, said: “He’ll be training at Leeds until something else happens.
“He’s got two years left on his contract and his next move needs to be the right one. As things stand, he’s still a Leeds player.”
Smith expects the future of departing Leeds midfielder Neil Kilkenny - another of his clients - to be decided in the coming week.
Kilkenny is officially out of contract with United next Friday and Hull City, Ipswich Town and Burnley have all cast an eye over the Australian.
Smith said: “I’d hope to get something finalised in the next week because Neil wants to know where he’s going to be next season.”
