Leeds United await news from EFL as Premier League outline aim to displace rescheduled fixtures over Coronavirus

The entire professional game in England has been postponed until Friday, April 3 at the earliest due to the increasing numbers of clubs taking steps to isolate their players and staff because of the COVID-19 virus.

Both the Premier League and EFL Board held emergency meetings on Friday morning following the news that Arsenal and Chelsea's first-team squads were in self-isolation after positive Coronavirus tests for Gunners manager Mikel Arteta and Blues winger Callum Hudson-Odoi.

News of the blanket postponement of the English professional game then followed late on Friday morning.

Leeds United are subsequently facing at least three weeks off with Sunday's clash at Cardiff City, Wednesday night's hosting of Fulham and the following Saturday's Elland Road clash against Luton Town all falling during the period of suspension.

United still have nine games left in their Championship campaign with Marcelo Bielsa's table-topping Whites looking to close in on promotion to the Premier League and holding a seven-point cushion in the division's automatic promotion spots.

The EFL have yet to comment on what will happen to the fixtures that have been suspended but Premier League chief executive Richard Masters said it was the Premier League's intention to re-arrange the Premier League fixtures that had been lost.

Masters said: "Above all, we wish Mikel Arteta and Callum Hudson-Odoi speedy recoveries, and everyone else affected by COVID-19.

"In this unprecedented situation, we are working closely with our clubs, Government, The FA and EFL and can reassure everyone the health and welfare of players, staff and supporters are our priority.

"Despite the challenges, it is the Premier League's aim to reschedule the displaced fixtures, including those played by Academy sides, when it is safe to do so.

"In this fast-moving environment, further updates will be provided when appropriate."
