Leeds United and coronavirus - Premier League reveals positive tests as top flight clubs train

The Premier League say six of 748 players and staff members who took part in COVID-19 testing have tested positive.

On Sunday and Monday the tests were carried out on footballers and staff members at top flight clubs, some of whom have returned to training, albeit in small groups.

The players or club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate for seven days.

A spokesperson said: "The Premier League can today confirm that, on Sunday 17 May and Monday 18 May, 748 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19.

"Of these, six have tested positive from three clubs.

"The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and oversight.

"No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the Premier League due to legal and operational requirements."

Leeds United and their fellow Championship clubs are to begin testing players this week, ahead of a potential return to training on Monday.

They too will have to train in small groups, observing social distancing guidelines.
