Leeds United 3 Reading 2: YEP player ratings

Have your say

YEP writer Phil Hay provides his Leeds United player ratings on the back of the 3-2 win against Reading at Elland Road. Do you agree with his choices?

Marco Silvestri

Chris Wood heads in Leeds United's second goal.

Chris Wood heads in Leeds United's second goal.

Couldn’t have done much with either of Reading’s goals but Silvestri’s dominance of his box wasn’t great and the defence seemed to suffer from that. 5/10

Gaetano Berardi

Put in a peach of a cross for Diagouraga’s header and he was a factor in the turnaround after half-time. 7/10

Giuseppe Bellusci

The first half was littered with mistakes and he did not look comfortable in the middle of the backline. Reading saw fewer chances after the break though. 6/10

Liam Cooper

The better of the two centre-backs but the opening 45 minutes were hard going and Reading’s pace in attack caused problems. 6/10

Charlie Taylor

Like Berardi, made a strong impression out wide and Wood should have buried a cross from him before Taylor laid on the striker’s first goal. 7/10

Lewis Cook

Anonymous until half-time but was helped by a more central role in the second period. Needs to be used in his most natural position. 6/10

Toumani Diagouraga

Seemed to be in the mood on Saturday, even in the periods when Leeds struggled, and took his goal well. A surprise to see him subbed early. 8/10

Luke Murphy

Decent without being brilliant but the whole of United’s team found another level at the start of the second half. 7/10

Stuart Dallas

Wasn’t as creative as certain other players around him but he kept Reading busy and was never far from the action. 7/10

Chris Wood

Endured a mediocre afternoon until his header crossed the line but his confidence jumped up immediately. Took his second goal like a poacher. 8/10

Mirco Antenucci

Missed a glorious chance early on and that loose, sliced finished summed up his afternoon. Didn’t quite click for him. 5/10

Kalvin Phillips (for Diagouraga, 66) - Full of running and proved an adequate replacement for Diagouraga. 6/10

Lee Erwin (for Antenucci, 80) - A rare outing but found it difficult to get on the ball. 5/10

Lewie Coyle (for Dallas, 90) - Came on as a very late sub and saw out injury-time without any difficulty. 5/10

Subs (not used): Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Jordan Botaka, Casper Sloth, Scott Wootton.

Referee: Jeremy Simpson (Lancashire) - Had a very steady day until Reading’s second goal got him and one of his assistants in a pickle. 5/10
