Leeds United will begin the new Championship season away to Southampton.

The Elland Road club have been handed a long trip to the south coast on August 6, the first day of the 2011-12 campaign.

The fixture is the start of a tough first month in which United face home clashes with Middlesbrough and Hull City and further away games at West Ham United and Ipswich Town.

Leeds’ Boxing Day date is a match at Derby County and the club play twice over the New Year’s Day weekend, travelling to Barnsley on December 31 and hosting Burnley on January 2.

West Ham’s visit to Elland Road is scheduled to take place on March 17 and the campaign winds up on April 28 with a home clash against Leicester City.
