Leeds transfer news: New twist in international chase, Bielsa makes decision on Whites talent

The longer the transfer window goes on, the more likely it is that Leeds United will let this month come and go without bringing in any new recruits.

In truth, a quiet January wouldn’t come as a surprise to many, and the Yorkshire Evening Post’s own Graham Smyth has even suggested that the Whites may opt to bring nobody in before the end of the month.

That possibility has only been strengthened by a fresh report on Fiorentina midfielder.

The Chilean has been linked with a move to Elland Road for several weeks now, but according to Tutto Mercato Web, Leeds have decided to cool their interest in the player.

The Italian publication suggests that a summer move is still an option, but chances are that the South American will not be arriving in Yorkshire in the coming days.

If Marcelo Bielsa does look to reignite his interest in Pulgar further down the line, he could probably do a whole lot worse than bringing in the 27-year-old.

This season, his pass completion rate has been 3.6% higher than Kalvin Phillips’, while his total action success rate has been 4.3% higher, as per Wyscout.

Elsewhere, it is understood that the Whites will not allow Tyler Roberts to leave Elland Road this month.

That’s according to The Athletic, who suggest that Bielsa is keen to hang onto the 22-year-old, despite interest from a number of Championship clubs.

The Daily Mail reported that Bournemouth were tracking the Wales international at the beginning of the month, while the Athletic also name Derby County and Cardiff City as potential suitors.

Roberts has struggled to show his best form in the Premier League this season, and has been limited to just nine outings, seven of which have come from the bench.

Even more worrying for the forward is that he has the lowest average match rating of any player in the Whites’ squad this term – with the exception of Leif Davis, who has played just 31 minutes in the league – as per Whoscored.

Still, with incomings unlikely, it’s understandable that Bielsa is reluctant to trim an already slim squad.
