Hernandez picked up a calf injury in the 1-1 draw at home to Derby County at the back end of September and then experienced a fresh hamstring problem as he prepared to make his return ahead of the October date at Preston North End.

The Spaniard missed six games but the 34-year-old playmaker has returned to the squad for United's last two Championship home fixtures with second-half outings from the bench in the victories against QPR and Blackburn Rovers.

Jack Harrison and Helder Costa have filled the starting slots out wide with Tyler Roberts excelling in the no 10 role.

Hernandez then signed a new two-year extension to his Whites contract on Tuesday after which the Spaniard provided an update on his fitness to LUTV.

Third-placed Leeds return to Championship action on Saturday at fourth-bottom Luton Town.

"For a player, the worst moment is when you have been injured," said Hernandez.

"I was out for six weeks but now I am back with the team and I have been able to play some minutes in the last two games. Now I am ready to continue helping the team.

"I am ready to play every game and hopefully I can play in the next game to help the team win three points.

"Now, for me, what's more important is to help the team, in the XI that starts or from the bench.

"What is more important is to be ready to play and I am very happy now to stay with the team."
