Outgoing midfielder Austin pays tribute to Leeds United fans

The 30-year-old midfielder is searching for a new club after his contract ended at Leeds, with a number of Championship clubs having shown interest.

Austin, who joined Leeds from Norweigan club SK Brann in the summer of 2012, made over 100 appearances in all competitions for the club.

The likes of Bolton Wanderers, Millwall and Brighton have been linked to the Jamaica captain, who is keen to stay in England.

Austin, who has admitted to “talking to some clubs who are interested”, said: “I was there for three years and I enjoyed it very much.

“I loved playing for the fans and loved playing for the club, it was fantastic.

“Sometimes I got injuries which forced me to miss a couple of games, but it was always a pleasure going out there and representing the club.

“In Norway, the fans were very passionate and in Leeds they were even more passionate.

“Every away game you go the stands are full, that’s the passion the club displays, the people take the football very seriously, they love the club and the atmosphere at Elland Road is always pumping.

“I remember playing Huddersfield Town, which is like a local derby, we were beating them 5-1 and you feel the stadium literally shaking with you on the pitch, so that’s the kind of atmosphere.”

On his desire to remain in England, Austin added: “Definitely, because that’s where my son was born and I would like him to spend as much time there as possible.”
