Leeds United defender Liam Cooper has issued an apology following an incident with a ball boy during his sides 2-1 defeat to Fulham last month.

The Championship clash, which took place in mid-December, saw United fall to their first loss in twelve league outings.

Aleksandar Mitrovic opened the scoring at Craven Cottage in the first half before Patrick Bamford levelled shortly after the half-time interval.

Scott Parker's side went on to claim all three points in a hotly contested affair as Josh Onomah struck with twenty minutes remaining.

Cooper has now apologised for an incident which occurred in the latter stages of the game in the capital, with the Football Association making the 28-year-old aware of his actions.

A statement read: "The FA have brought it to my attention that during injury time in our game with Fulham in December I used some bad language in front of a ball boy.

“I was trying to get the ball back for a throw in during the final moments of the game as we looked to equalise.

"That isn’t an excuse, I’m the captain of Leeds United – a role I take extremely seriously – and I should know better.

“I apologise to the ball boy in question and his family. I’ve sent some boots and a shirt with a written apology to him Fulham to pass on. Once again, sorry.”

The FA have confirmed Cooper has been asked for his observations of the incident.
