Leeds United: White frustrated by final season at Elland Road

AIDY WHITE has voiced his frustration at a difficult final season at Leeds United – after linking up with Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United on a free transfer.

The 23-year-old – freed by Leeds last month – has joined the Millers on a one-year deal and is eager to a pen a new and successful chapter in his career after a tough final few years at Elland Road.

A metatarsal injury suffered in a pre-season clash at Chesterfield last July kept him out for the best part of nine months in 2014-15, with his only first-team involvement ironically coming as a substitute on the final day of last term on May 2, against the Millers in a 0-0 derby draw at Elland Road.

On a wholly forgettable campaign, White, who made his debut for United at the age of 16 and who had seven different managers/head coaches during his time at the club, said: “I just want to get back playing.

“I was out injured for most of last season and want to get back playing, as most professionals want to do , at the highest level. Keeping in the Championship was one of my priorities.

“There’s no (injury) problems at all now and it has all been sorted and I am back fit and playing full-time.

“That should never reoccur again. I have had an operation and a titanium plate in it, so it should not reoccur at all.

“It was very frustrating. All professional footballers just want to play football. Obviously, watching the team every week in the stands is not ideal and to be out with a fractured metatarsal for such a long period of time was probably a bit harder to take as well.”

Leeds, meanwhile, are again being linked with a move for Chesterfield full-back/winger Tendayi Darikwa, 23.

Darikwa enjoyed an outstanding campaign with the Spireites, culminating in scooping four awards at the club’s end-of-season awards night.
