The 22-year-old put pen to paper on a two-year contract last night and was unveiled as United’s eighth summer arrival at lunchtime today.

Botaka - a Congo international - has joined Leeds for a fee worth up to £1million, two years after leaving Club Brugge for Excelsior.

Botaka made more than 70 top-flight appearances for the Rotterdam-based outfit, his last in a 3-0 win over De Graafschap on Saturday.

Leeds and Excelsior agreed a free shortly before that game and Botaka travelled to England on Sunday before completing a medical and agreeing personal terms yesterday.

“I am very happy, it happened very fast,” Botaka told United’s official website.

“In two or three days everything was arranged. It was just crazy. I knew Leeds were a big club. I looked a few things up and I heard from other people. This is a new adventure for me.”
