FT Leeds United 2 Nottingham Forest 1: Whites hang on for victory

LEEDS UNITED withstood a second half barrage from Nottingham Forest to claim their first league victory in almost a month.

Goals from Luciano Becchio and Dominic Poleon were enough to seal the points and ensure Neil Warnock’s side bounced back admirably from the midweek defeat to Hull City.

Forest snatched a lifeline on the hour when Paddy Kenny failed to collect a long throw from Greg Halford and Dexter Blackstock headed in.

After that, the visitors came to life and Kenny had to react quickly to keep out another effort from Blackstock before beating away a shot from substitute Lewis McGugan.

Leeds then had another let-off 12 minutes from time when McGugan curled an exquisite free-kick just an inch or two past the post with Kenny beaten.

Two minutes later, McGugan was given another chance when Tom Lees committed a rash foul but this time he fired into the wall.

Forest appealed for handball against Michael Tonge but referee Andy D’Urso waved the protests away.
