Marcelo Bielsa's experience made him a 'terrific' introduction to Elland Road, according to the former Leeds defender.

"It was a real coup when Marcelo joined Leeds at the start of last season," said Woodgate in his programme notes for tonight's game at the Riverside.

"And to have an inspirational coach like him in the Championship is terrific. He has managed at the very highest level and brings such a wealth of knowledge and experience.

"His aim is obviously to take Leeds back to the Premier League and after coming close last season, they will be looking to make sure this time around."

Woodgate's concern isn't what happens at the top of the table, however, it's the dig fight at the other end occupying his thoughts.

Boro sit 21st, three points clear of the relegation places, and haven't won a game since New Year's Day.

"We've never been far enough clear of the bottom clubs and we know we're in a fight," he said.

"The encouragement I take is that we know how we can perform and are more than capable. Some of our best results and performances of the season have come against the teams pushing for promotion.

"We won at both West Brom and Preston, deserved a point at Brentford and drew with Bristol City."
