A solitary Mateusz Klich strike was enough for the Whites to topple Jonathan Woodgate's outfit at the Riverside.

Three wins on the bounce - and another clean sheet

United made it three 1-0 wins in a row in Championship action on Wednesday night.

The victory at Middlesbrough, though, was as much about grit and determination as it was about the visitors quality.

United were forced to scrap for all the points despite missing a number of chances.

Bielsa called it an 'aggressive' performance from his outfit afterwards: “The team fought a lot, were very aggressive. The team made a lot of effort. When necessary the whole team defended.”

The Whites won 27 tackles, intercepted the ball 23 times and made 68 ball recoveries over the course of the 90 minutes.

Against Bristol City and Reading it was total domination for Leeds, but at the Riverside they found another side to their game that will be needed in the run-in.

Klich is scoring goals - against Middlesbrough again

Mateusz Klich loves playing Middlesbrough.

"I think so," he said of enjoying games against the hosts. "But I hope I won't play against Middlesbrough next season."

The 29-year-old bagged a brace at Elland Road in the reverse fixture in November - the last time he found the net for the Whites - in a 4-0 demolition.

Klich moved onto five goals for the campaign, and with the Poland international and Pablo Hernandez bagging winners in recent weeks it shows the importance of goals coming from behind Patrick Bamford.

United's number nine is now on a run of six games without finding the back of the net, but three wins on the bounce has seen the pressure lifted.

No Kalvin, no problem... kind of

Kalvin Phillips is racing to be fit for this weekend's trip to Hull City having missed the victory at Middlesbrough.

His absence was felt in front of the back four as United failed to implement their usual dominating style of play.

Leeds still enjoyed 57 per cent possession, but were overrun on a number of occasions in midfield with Ben White stepping into Phillips' vacant role.

The Whites still managed to secure all three points, but the game showed again how vital the 24-year-old is to Bielsa's line-up.

4,500 travelling supporters

United were once again backed by phenomenal support at the Riverside.

Over 4,500 made the trip to the North East and they were in fine voice throughout and at the full-time whistle.

Kalvin Phillips was in attendance despite his injury, and celebrated on the pitch following the game with his now accustomed fist pump celebration.

Leeds are now facing a very quick turnaround from the Riverside to the KCOM as they turn their attention to Hull City this weekend.

United are the Championship's lunchtime kick-off this weekend in front of the Sky Sports cameras, and Luke Ayling told the YEP how they'd recover for the Tigers clash with the hosts on a poor run of form.

"We'll come in straight after the game," Ayling revealed.

"We all sit in an ice bath for 10 minutes and then we'll come in tomorrow and go out for a jog. We'll get back in the ice bath again and then have a video to go over of this game (Middlesbrough) to put it to bed.

"We'll come in on Friday and do a light session to be ready for Saturday."
