Grant McCann has admitted that his Hull City side will be hammered by Leeds United unless they make huge improvements.

The Tigers boss has seen his outfit slump to 17th in the Championship table having picked up just one win in their last 10 league outings - a run which dates back to New Year's Day.

City were handed a 1-0 defeat in midweek by relegation-threatened Barnsley and are now themselves just four points above the drop zone with 11 games of the campaign to go.

The Whites meanwhile secured their third win on the bounce at Middlesbrough on Wednesday night at the Riverside with their lead in the race for automatic promotion to the Premier League remaining five points ahead of third-place Fulham.

McCann - who saw influential forwards Jarrod Bowen and Kamil Grosicki both depart the club in the winter transfer window last month - was scathing in his assessment of his players ahead of Saturday lunchtimes clash with Marcelo Bielsa's side at the KCOM stadium.

“We’ve got a very, very tough game on Saturday," McCann told Hull Live.

"One of the best teams in the league are coming here. If we perform like we did (against Barnsley) then we’ll get hammered. That’s exactly what I’ve told the group.

“We need to roll our sleeves up now, do it for themselves, do it for their families, do it for this football club. They need to start taking responsibility and that’s everyone.

"Confidence is a big thing in football and at the minute we’ve got a low group.

“We have to pick them up and go again. In tough times you’ve got to stick together and stay strong. The belief has got to run through the group."
