Trips down the road to Huddersfield Town have produced mixed results for Leeds United in recent years, with the Whites bringing just four points, one win and a draw, from a possible 15 back to Elland Road. Oliver Roby takes a look through Leeds’ last five visits to their West Yorkshire rivals.

TUESDAY, APRIL 15, 2008 – HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 1-0 LEEDS UNITED

‘Cantankerous’ would be the best way to describe Leeds’ first league trip to Huddersfield for 21 years as the hosts took the spoils in this League One tie.

The game began positively for the Whites but the dismissal of Jonathan Douglas for a second bookable offence on 39 minutes halted the visitors’ momentum.

Huddersfield’s Jonathan Worthington picked up a straight red on the stroke of half time but Town remained on top and current Guiseley man Andy Holdsworth notched the winner on 76 minutes, as a strike force featuring Tresor Kandol and Dougie Freedman could not force an equalizer.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 2009 – HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 1-0 LEEDS UNITED

The Terriers made it two wins from two on their own turf with a second consecutive 1-0 win. Halifax-born defender Nathan Clarke proved to be the hero on this Valentine’s Day clash, his 16th minute goal giving his side a crucial win.

Robert Snodgrass, Fabian Delph and Lee Trundle formed part of an attacking line-up for Gary McAllister’s side but no equalizer came.

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2010 – HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 2-2 LEEDS UNITED

The two sides shared the spoils for the second consecutive game with a second 2-2 draw of the season.

Anthony Pilkington gave the Terriers the lead on 13 minutes but Jonny Howson levelled the scores on the hour, with Luciano Becchio tipping the balance in Leeds’ favour just five minutes later with his 11th goal of the season. Leeds looked to be heading for all three points as the game drew to a close, but Gary Roberts notched an 85th minute equalizer to give his side a late point.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 1, 2012 – HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 2-4 LEEDS UNITED

The first A62 derby in the Championship went the way of Leeds in a memorable clash.

Chris Atkinson gave the hosts the lead on 12 minutes but a quick-fire double from Leeds through Michael Tonge and Luciano Becchio saw United lead on 37 minutes.

Ex-Leeds midfielder Adam Clayton struck a penalty six minutes later to level the scores but Town never recovered from a David Norris goal on 70 minutes and Becchio made sure of the points with his second of the day on 86 minutes.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2013 – HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 3-2 LEEDS UNITED

The Whites’ most recent trip to the John Smith’s Stadium proved to be a frustrating affair.

The game began well for United with Matt Smith notching a goal on two minutes but Danny Ward pegged Leeds back soon after, equalizing in the tenth. A Tom Lees own goal on 62 minutes saw Huddersfield take the lead for the first time but Dexter Blackstock brought the visitors back into the tie 11 minutes later.

However, current Bradford loanee John Stead netted with 13 to go to secure the three points for the hosts.
