The 28-year-old is out of contract at the summer, and would be eligible to leave Elland Road on a free transfer should no new agreement be reached before his current deal expires.

Despite reports that the Macedonian has emerged as a potential target for a move to Turkey this month, the YEP understands that there is little substance behind the rumours and Leeds, believing the player is content in Yorkshire, are hopeful of that talks with the player will lead to him signing an extension.

Assessing Alioski’s current situation, many Leeds fans on Twitter have made it clear that they want to see him stay at Elland Road beyond the summer:

@EnthusiastLeeds tweeted: “Very important player, needs more recognition”.

@Marshall4860 tweeted: “Great player to have in the squad. Capable of doing a job anywhere on the left. Be so sad to see him go.”

@petermauriceuk tweeted: “We need players like Alioski here. The heartbeat of the club”.

@joshbatty1995 tweeted: “A great player who plays for the badge. Yeah, can improve on things like every player can, but ultimately knows the Bielsa way and is a great squad player”.

But other fans are less certain, with a considerable number expressing their belief that the Whites have to look at bringing in more quality on the left-side of defence if they are to improve:

@Lufc19821 tweeted: “As much as he played his part in getting us promoted if we’re to be in this division long term we need to be looking at better quality. Hate to see it and I’ll get stick for it but Marcelo is wrong on this one. Good squad player not starter if we have better quality.”

@pistol1603 tweeted: “He isn’t a Premier League left back. Maybe stay as back up but he shouldn’t be a starter”.

@gandalflufc tweeted: “This is the sort of move we will need to accept to move to the next level. Alioski is good but we will need better to push on next season.”

@anonymousl33ds tweeted: “I’d be torn over Alioski. He’d be a decent squad player to have, but he’s not good enough to take us to the next level”.
