Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Graham Potter says his side will have to be smart if they are to get a result against Leeds United.

Leeds have picked up 23 points from 17 games this term following promotion last season, which sees the Whites sit 12th in the table - 11 points above the relegation zone.

Brighton themselves are on a nine game winless run in the top flight and as a result have slipped to 17th, with just two points between themselves and Fulham who sit in the bottom three.

Potter's men fell to a 1-0 defeat to Manchester City in midweek across the Pennines while Leeds have been left to reflect on an embarrassing FA Cup exit at the hands of League Two side Crawley Town.

The visitors face a swift turnaround with a trip to Elland Road this weekend, and Potter knows his side will have to be on it from the first whistle in West Yorkshire.

“You have to recover quickly for Leeds United, who are physically amazing," Potter admitted.

"They run so much and fight so much that we have to match them and be smart. We’re playing against a really good team.”

Asked about United's head coach Marcelo Bielsa ahead of a third meeting between the pair, Potter added: "He’s been fantastic.

"It’s a massive club and they’ve been disappointed for a long time. He got them back in the Premier League.

"Now they’re bringing their own game to the division, which is a credit to him and everybody there."

The Whites will be missing Kalvin Phillips at Elland Road after the midfielder picked up a one-match ban at Tottenham Hotspur.

Brighton will welcome back Yves Bissouma from suspension while the Seagulls expect to have six senior players missing.

Quartet Aaron Connolly, Adam Lallana, Tariq Lamptey and Danny Welbeck have all been joined on the sidelines by Alireza Jahanbakhsh and Jason Steele this week.
