Newly-promoted Leeds approached Tuesday evening's clash at St Mary's sat tenth in the table and seeking to record a third consecutive league victory for the second time this campaign.

After a strong start from Ralph Hasenhuttl's Saints side, Leeds gradually began to dominate and eventually recorded a 2-0 victory thanks to Patrick Bamford's 16th goal of the season and a first Premier League strike from Tyler Roberts.

The Whites had finished the 2017-18 season 13th in the Championship when Bielsa was appointed head coach, and on that basis plus the style of United's football, Souness believes the Argentinian should be named coach of the year.

"They've been the best watch for me," said Souness, speaking on Sky Sports before Tuesday's clash at St Mary's.

"They play a brand of football that you can't help but enjoy.

"There's an honesty about them, they are a young group that prior to this year you are thinking 'these are not Premier League players' but to a man they have stood up and looked like they have belonged in this league.

"Some of the football has been fantastic and I would go as far as to say that he would be my manager/coach of the year.

"The football that he has got this group of players playing defies logic when you look at where those players were before."
