Gaetano Berardi facing up to nine months out as Leeds United reveal extent of defender's injury

LEEDS United defender Gaetano Berardi is facing up to nine months out having suffered an ACL tear in his knee during Sunday’s Championship clash at Derby County.

Berardi fell awkwardly during the first half of Sunday's 3-1 win at Pride Park with the hard-man defender clearly in pain and needing to be stretchered off.

The 31-year-old then had scans on Monday which confirmed the ACL tear in his knee.

Berardi has made 25 appearances for the Whites during the present campaign, helping Leeds seal a return to the Premier League as Championship champions.

The defender's Whites contract ran out at the end of last month but with the season extended due to the coronavirus pandemic, the former Switzerland international signed a new deal that ran until the end of the current campaign.
